Surgical techniques originally developed for reconstructive surgery have gradually been adapted for rejuvenation and aesthetic enhancement. Developments in technology have also expanded the armamentarium of plastic surgeons. Lasers, for example, originally used for tumour destruction, can now be applied to the delicate process of skin rejuvenation and the correction of skin blemishes without visible scarring. Aesthetic Surgery is now an established discipline, in which selection of the appropriate procedure and technique is as important as the skill with which it is performed.
Excellent and impartial advice on the above procedures can be found on the website of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
