Scar Revision

Wide scars can be revised by cutting out the stretched areas and carefully bringing together the fresh edges. It is rarely possible to reduce the length of an existing scar, but it may be possible to improve its appearance. Tethered scars can be released, puckered scars can be broken up by Z-plasties, and hypertrophic or keloid scars can be softened and then excised by laser or conventional surgery or both.
